Optimized Self-developed Classic MAU Propeller: Improved Hydrodynamics For Lower Fuel Consumption & Higher Efficiency

Jul 21, 2026

The MAU propeller is a classic model mass-produced by our factory for years. It has been widely supplied to clients worldwide and installed on various vessels, accumulating abundant real-ship operation data. Taking our self-manufactured and widely-operated original MAU propeller as the research & development base, our technical team keeps in-depth research to re-optimize the overall blade profile design. We upgrade hydrodynamic performance based on fluid mechanics, helping vessels cut fuel consumption and boost propulsion efficiency.

Our R&D team retrieves original drawings of mass-produced propellers and feedback data from real voyages. Combined with CFD fluid simulation systems, we fully analyze the drawbacks of traditional MAU propellers, including large vortex loss, uneven pressure distribution on blade surfaces and high risk of cavitation. Our technicians conduct repeated calculations and multi-round iterations to adjust blade skew angle, section thickness, tip camber and leading edge curve. Every contour detail is refined to reshape the whole blade profile, making the blade surface better conform to water flow patterns during navigation and minimizing energy loss when water passes through the blades.

Every profile adjustment is matched with open-water simulation tests and thrust calculation, which effectively weaken tip vortex and relieve negative-pressure cavitation on blade surfaces for smoother water propulsion. The optimized MAU propeller finalized after numerous tests features remarkably improved hydrodynamic efficiency. With the same engine power output, it delivers stronger effective thrust and greatly reduces fuel consumption compared with the original model. It helps shipowners slash long-term fuel costs, while lowering navigation vibration and noise to extend the service life of propellers and shaft systems.

The upgraded propeller retains the original strengths of classic MAU propellers: wide adaptability and robust durability, while breaking the limitations of the old design. From reviewing data of original propellers and building fluid simulation models to iterating profiles and verifying performance via real tests, our technical team devotes themselves to marine propulsion fluid technology. Instead of sticking to mature old solutions, we keep tapping performance improvement potential of our self-developed classic propeller model.

The optimized MAU propeller fits ferries, cargo ships, fishing boats, engineering vessels and more, balancing durability, low wear and energy efficiency. Taking our self-produced mature propeller as the R&D foundation, we innovate traditional designs through continuous technical research and hydrodynamic optimization, delivering more efficient and fuel-saving marine propulsion solutions for shipowners globally.
