Nondestructive Testing: Safeguarding Every Inch Of The Propeller's Metal Texture

Feb 11, 2026

In the production workshop of Lifa, propellers in both red and metallic primary colors are displayed quietly, having either just completed or about to undergo the critical nondestructive testing (NDT) process. This step is the core defense line for ensuring the safety of ship navigation, and also a vital manifestation of Lifa's commitment to quality.

Nondestructive testing refers to the use of professional technical means to detect internal and surface defects such as cracks, pores, and inclusions in the propeller without damaging its structure. For propellers made of copper alloys like nickel-aluminum bronze, this step is particularly crucial-any tiny internal defect could evolve into fatal structural failure under the long-term effects of seawater corrosion and the stress of high-speed rotation.

In Lifa's production process, NDT typically employs mature techniques such as Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) or Penetrant Testing (PT):

Magnetic Particle Testing: By applying a magnetic field to the blade surface, a leakage magnetic field is generated at defects, attracting magnetic particles to form visible traces, which clearly reveal surface and near-surface discontinuities like cracks.

Penetrant Testing: Using the capillary action of penetrant liquid to seep into surface-opening defects, then using a developer to magnify the defects, making micro-cracks that are invisible to the naked eye clearly visible.

Every blade must undergo rigorous NDT inspection, and only after a qualified report is issued can it proceed to the next process. This is not only a responsibility for ship safety but also a practice of Lifa's commitment to "making navigation more economical and environmentally friendly"-only defect-free blades can stably exert their energy-saving potential and create long-term value for shipowners.

When these thoroughly inspected propellers are finally installed on ships, every moment they rotate in ocean currents carries the safety and reliability bestowed by NDT, safeguarding the confidence of every voyage through the waves.
