Bronze Alloy Worm Gears & Bushings, Core Wear-Resistant Parts For Marine Transmission Systems
Jul 01, 2026
In the precision machining workshop of EAST OCEAN Factory, neatly stacked bronze alloy worm gears and threaded liners serve as key wear-resistant accessories matching the full shafting and steering gear systems of LIFA PROPELLER. With premium bronze alloy materials and precision machining techniques, they lay a solid foundation for stable and durable marine transmission structures.
All accessories are integrally cast from marine-grade high-toughness aluminum bronze alloy. Unlike ordinary brass, this bronze alloy contains reinforced nickel and aluminum components, delivering outstanding self-lubricating performance, along with exceptional seawater corrosion resistance, anti-seize capacity and impact resistance. Vessels navigate constantly in alternating salt and fresh water environments, where ordinary steel tends to rust and wear rapidly. In contrast, bronze alloy can withstand salt erosion from seawater, preventing shaft jamming and tooth surface scuffing during operation, and greatly extending the replacement cycle of transmission components.

The workpieces with dense curved tooth disc structures shown in the picture are bronze alloy worm gears, the core transmission components of steering gear reduction boxes. Their tooth surfaces are professionally hobbed and finely polished with accurately uniform tooth curves, enabling perfect meshing with worms to bear the high torque power required for vessel steering. Standard mounting holes are reserved on the end face of each worm gear, and the inner bore is precision machined with keyways for tight assembly fit. They operate smoothly with low vibration and noise, and feature an inherent self-locking function that prevents rudder slippage after steering stops, guaranteeing safe vessel maneuvering.
The cylindrical workpieces stacked beside them are matching bronze alloy threaded bushings, with precision machined internal threads used as stern shaft locking liners and sliding support sleeves. As shafts rotate continuously at high speed during navigation, bronze alloy bushings act as buffering wear-resistant layers to reduce rigid metal friction and shaft system loss. They also assist in positioning and sealing, blocking sediment and seawater from penetrating transmission gaps.

From blank casting to tooth surface fine machining and thread grinding, EAST OCEAN Factory implements strict quality inspection for every bronze alloy part. Castings are free of internal defects such as blowholes and sand holes, with tightly controlled dimensional tolerances. All worm gears and bronze bushings can be customized in module, tooth count, inner and outer diameters according to vessel tonnage and steering gear models, perfectly fitting the full shafting solutions of LIFA PROPELLER propellers.
These compact bronze alloy components shoulder the critical task of marine transmission system operation. Supported by high-performance bronze alloy and refined processing technology, the worm gears and bushings are compatible with inland, coastal and ocean-going vessels. With advantages of low wear, strong corrosion resistance and high stability, they cut down vessels' later operation and maintenance costs, and deliver reliable transmission support for every voyage.
